Zodiac Collaboration: Cancer

I'm excited to present my part of another collaboration with awesome blogger ladies! This time, we took zodiac signs and interpreted them. My birthday was the 10th, so I am a Cancerian.

Growing up, I was never particularly fond of my sign because of its name, the symbol (when used with pervy connotations), and the typical crab motif that went along with it. I just didn't bond with the image, thinking it wasn't girly enough or matched me in any way. Crabs were just a food. So, regarding my look, instead of interpreting character traits, I went with Maryland's State Crustacean, the Blue Crab. I grew up in this state, eating bushels of crabs with my family during peak season every summer. The Chesapeake Bay runs right through Maryland, where harvesting crabs is very valuable commercially. Feasting on crabs and beer is kind of a big Marylander 'thing' here. Also, you can find a huge stained-glass Blue Crab on display at BWI Airport, and we even have a little crab on the corner of our driver's licenses, haha.

The moon is the ruling planet for Cancer, so that was my reasoning behind the use of a silver eyeshadow (Sugarpill Tiara) as a starting color on the lids. Not sure what I was thinking about the lips though! Originally, I had a different idea for the look in mind, but it ended up looking weird.. so I removed it and came up with this one instead. The dark blue outlining was unbelievably frustrating. I had a lot of trouble just trying to get both eyes to look somewhat even and went back and forth with concealer several times. I think some of the photos even make it look like I 'shopped the lines on the inner corners, but I promise you that I didn't!

Please check out the other zodiac looks!

wearing Sugarpill lashes in Dreamy
I wish my lashes always looked this long!

I love Sugarpill's Dreamy falsies! The band is thin and they are so lightweight! My right eye looks a little wonky above, but I think I did alright considering that I didn't cut them down. The lashes have these little silver sparkles on the top of them too, but all the shots I took of my eyes looking down were blurry and didn't capture them. Hopefully I'll do a better job next time!
